Zes Lawatha Johnson was born to the late Erskine Johnson and Beatrice Aquilla Burruss on June 18, 1955. She departed this early life on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at home with family and loved ones around her. Zes will be remembered with love. She passed away at the age of sixty-six after a courageous battle with cancer and COPD. She was surrounded by loved ones who will strive to honor her memory by living their lives to the fullest.  Zes accepted Christ at an early age. She received her education in the public schools of Union Elementary and Bowling Green  Senior High. She worked at Keller's for a while and as a laborer in restaurants and Randolph Macon College. Zes was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, niece, cousin, friend and nurturer to so many. She will be missed tremendously. Heaven has gained another wonderful angel.

Zes was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Johnson, Jr., mother Beatrice A. Burruss, father Erskine Johnson; daughter Lisa M. Freeman; two sisters Regina F. Johnson and Sabrina D. Burruss; nephew Tavaris S. Freeman; brother Robert Henry, Curnel L. Brown and John Henry Brown.

Zes leaves to cherish her memory, her loving companion of 28 years, Henry G. Taylor; step-father, Charles Freeman, Jr.; four children, Lakisha Freeman, Lorenzo Freeman, Keith Freeman and John Johnson, IIII; seventeen grandchildren: Tiffany, Alexus, Brandy, Tavaryia, Keymani, Karsyn, RaShaun, Alayah, TyJohn, Skylah, Starlah, Prince Kamari, Jayden, Makylah, Keithiana, Keith and John; three great-grandchildren: Amari, Amani and Xavior; seven brothers, Ronald Brown(Marsha), Carl Freeman(Michelle),Cedric Freeman(Jennifer), Michael Freeman(Daisy), John Johnson(Romaine), Erskine Johnson, Delroy Johnson(LoRita); five sisters;Francina Burruss(Greg), Diane Freeman(EL), Sonya Freeman, Tonya Freeman; four aunts: Pearl Minor(late Waverly), Shirley Young(James), Gloria Samuels(MacArthur) and Betty Brown; dedicated and devoted friends, CaChita Myers(James), Margaret Myers(late Richard) and Andrea Wheeler; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Caroline Community Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia 22514 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Second Baptist Church Cemetery, 26725 Ruther Glen, Virginia 22546
