William Larry Fortune of Stafford, Virginia County, formerly of Caroline County, departed this life on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at the Woodmont Rehabilitation facility in Stafford, Virginia after a brief battle with cancer.

Affectionately known as Larry, Mike, or Fugi, he was born to the late Raymond and Mary Reynolds Fortune on November 1, 1956, in Richmond, Virginia. Larry was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools and later received his GED. He was a chef for many restaurants before retiring from Chili's restaurant in 2020.

At an early age, Larry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Saint James Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia. Upon moving to Northern Virginia, Larry and his wife Regina rededicated their walk with Christ and joined Word of Faith Christian ministries of Dumfries, Virginia where he became ordained as an amor bearer under the leadership of Apostle Duane Coats and Pastor Jeanette Coats. He was a faithful and dedicated worker for more than ten years.

It was love at first sight when Larry met Regina. They were united in holy matrimony, and this union lasted for more than forty-five years in which the couple remained dedicated to each other. They had their ups and downs, but they honored their vows and stayed true to them. Larry loved Regina and would do anything for her; you never saw Larry without Regina by his side.

Larry was the fourth child of eight siblings, and he helped to instill love, laughter and respect to the youngest of his siblings.

Larry lived his life by spreading love and happiness to those he loved. He loved being with family, friends, and co-workers. He was an avid and die-hard Washington Redskins fan. When Washington won a game, he couldn't wait to call Raymond, Jr., Carolyn, Danielle, and Tiffany to rub it in.

Larry took great care of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whether it meant giving them a few dollars to buy the latest sneakers or giving them words of encouragement. He instilled values in all of his children to love, to have compassion, respect, to be loyal and the importance of family. His family was truly grateful for the unconditional love and life lessons they received from him. Larry was an angel walking on this earth, and now he has returned home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is gone but he will forever be remembered for his endless love.

In addition to his parents, one brother, Kevin Fortune; one niece, Quiara Johnson; three brothers-in-law, Richard Meyers, Wesley Chapman and Charles Chapman; mother-in-law, Roberta Chapman; father-in-law, Odell Chapman; and sister-in-law, Bertha Eura preceded him in death.

He leaves cherish memories to the love of his life, Bernice Regina Fortune; two adopted daughters, Philiarestia Renee Stevens (Craig) and Charnique Latoya Roye (Darryl); one adopted son, Antoine LaVell Roye (Nikki); grandchildren, Kanaya, Raenique, Joycelyn, Antonio, Khayla,  Daveron, Shaquan, Kashanti, Devon and Darryl; Papa Baby Girls, Shanti and Lailani; Godson, Toshawn Powell; great grandchildren, LeLani, D.J, and Lil Eric; two sisters, Barbara and Estell (Dan); four brothers, Raymond (Renee), David (Debbie), Bruce (Chris) and Troy (Lisa); two uncles, Floyd Fortune (Bernice) and Pete Reynolds (Joan); four aunts, Pearl Stewart, Leila Fortune, Alice and Sally Hudson; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Day (Sgt. Billy Day) and Sarah Chapman; two brothers-in-law, Franklin Myers and John Chapman; special nieces, Melody, Lisa, Danielle, Tiffany, Vanessa and Sedessa; special nephews, DeMarcus, Reshad, Tevin, Quan, Moses, Davon and Meeky; special aunt-in-law, Lucille Myers; devoted friends, John Childs, Tony Evans, Wallace Pleasants, Bryan Wilson, Marvin Toliver and Willis Pleasants; and a host of other nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

So long and farewell until we meet again. Play my music as if I were there, dance around my speakers and let joy rise everywhere. Laugh, sing and shout--let them know what Larry's love was all about.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

Celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Caroline County Community Services Building, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia 22514 with a viewing from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Woodford Road, Woodford, Virginia  22580.
