William Thomas Jones' Obituary
Deacon William Thomas Jones, Sr. entered eternal rest on December 5, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. William was born in Caroline County, Virginia, on March 26, 1919, to the late Robert and Nancy Jones.
He attended public schools in Caroline and Spotsylvania Counties. William joined Bethlehem Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Guss in Caroline County, Virginia. As an adult, William was a faithful member of Zion Grove Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board for forty years; he spent several years as the Chairman. William was a member of the Pastor's Aid Club, Adult Sunday School Class, Baptist Training Union (BTU) Missionary Ministry and prayer meeting participant.
During William's service in World War II he achieved numerous decorations and citations to include: American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with a bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was very proud of his service to the Country and often shared stories with his family and friends. William received an honorable discharge in 1946.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Deaconess Ruth Jones. William leaves cherished memories to his children: daughter Jenita Lewis of Spotsylvania, Virginia; sons, Leonard Edward (Lottie) Armstead and William Thomas Jones, Jr. both of Caroline County, Virginia; daughers-in-law, Sadie Armstead and Joyce Jones: brothers, Cecil (Annie)Jones of Spotsylvania and Morris Jones of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Frances Morgan and Catherine Daniel both of Spotsylvania, Virginia; 28 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, newphews other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 11, from noon to 8 p.m. at Zion Grove Baptist Church 9450 Fredericksburg Turnpike, Woodford, Virginia 22580 and one hour before the service at the church on Thursday.
A celebration of life will be at 12 noon on Thursday, December 12, at the church with Rev. Kenneth Grasty delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
