Welford A. Smith, Sr., 68, affectionately known as "Peanut" of Woodford, VA entered eternal rest at his residence on Saturday, December 19, 2020.
Peanut was educated in the Caroline County public school system. He was baptized at an early age at St. John Baptist Church. He served as a faithful member of St. John Baptist Church Men Choir and the Usher Board. He was an active attendee of the Sunday School and was always ready to learn more while bringing laugher and joy to the room. He did it all with a smile and humble spirit.
Peanut had a strong work ethic that began at a young age. He worked alongside his father "Big Jack" at Baird Concrete for years. Throughout his life he was employed at various other concrete corporations as well.
Peanut was a man of loyalty, integrity, bravery, and strength. He loved his family, church, and community but he also had a love for show cars and motorcycles. He was known to organize and assist with various car and motorcycle shows within the community. He was a member of the Victory 7 Mustang Club. Peanut was indeed a true show car and racecar fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Smith "Big Jack".
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rita A. Smith; two children, Stacy M. Talley and Welford A. Smith, Jr.; mother Bertha W. Smith; three sisters, Bertha Sims (Wilbur), Sarah A. Smith and Kathy Williams (Dwain); four brothers, John W. Smith (Valerie), Thomas Smith (Lucille), Roderick Smith (Marco), and Keith Smith (Deirdre); four grandchildren, Corey D. Talley (Selena), Jasmine M. Talley, Maliek A. Smith, and Ethan Smith; one great-grandchild, Audriella M. Talley; three aunts, Ruth Wright, Elizabeth Boone, and Evelyn Smith; and a host of other family members, church family, and friends.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
Homegoing Celebration will be held at 12 noon on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the above funeral home with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Saint John Baptist Church Cemetery, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
