Dr. Walter Edward Lowe, Sr., formerly of Caroline County, entered eternal rest on Saturday, August 1, 2015, after a short illness at the Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

Dr. Lowe graduated from Virginia State College in 1939 with a degree in Industrial Arts. He worked in the Caroline County school system as an industrial arts teacher at Union High School from 1939 to 1964. In this role, he taught local youth the art of carpentry, woodworking and other useful construction skills. He then employed many of his students in his construction business. While teaching and operating a construction business, he continued his education, earning his Masters Degree in Education from George Washington University in 1967 and his Doctorate from GWU in 1969. In 1964, he became Assistant Principal at Union High School and performed this role until 1969.

In 1969, he took a position at Virginia State University, as Professor of Graduate Education, Curriculum in Administration and Supervision and he remained there until he retired in 1984 as Professor Emeritus.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Fraulein and his daughter, Senora.

Left to celebrate his life are a son, Walter, Jr. (Sheryl); one brother, James Elwood Lowe; a sister, Alice Lowe Bynum; three grandchildren, Michele B. Crusoe, Ashley P. Lowe and Walter E. Lowe, III; and two great grandchildren, TiNele McCalvin and Terrell Crusoe. He touched many lives, was deeply loved by many and will be sorely missed by all. May he rest in eternal peace.

A viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. with a wake from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 7, at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, August 8, at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580, with Rev. Dr. W. G. Berryman delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Online condolences are available at cwedwardsfuneralhome.com
