Vivian Garnett Coleman's Obituary
Vivian Garnett Coleman was born July 4, 1935, to the late Robert and Martha Garnett in Shumansville, Virginia. She departed this life and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
She taught in the Caroline County Public School system for 36 years where she was very devoted to her students. After retiring from the school system she taught Adult Education at St. James Baptist Church, Sparta, Virginia. She also taught in an Adult Education Jail Ministry program that allowed inmates to work to get their GED. After retirement, she began traveling with her family as well as gardening and fishing. She joined Mt. Tabor Baptist Church at an early age. While a member there, she served as Superintendent of Sunday School, Superintendent of Vacation Bible School, Chairperson of the Missionary Board, Church Financial Secretary, worked with the Young Peoples Choir and being a dedicated member before moving her membership to Jerusalem Baptist Church, Sparta. Here at Jerusalem, she has served as Superintendent of Vacation Bible School, Superintendent of Sunday School and Chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry.
She was an active member of the Virginia State Alumni Association and the Welcome Lodge #129 of the Eastern Star.
She leaves cherish memories to her husband of 60 years, Harry Coleman; two daughters, Pearl Morgan and Sylvia Martin; one son, Malcolm Coleman; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; one brother, Everett Garnett; a devoted son-in-law, Emmett Morgan; two sisters-in-law, Louise and Mabel Garnett and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Vivian was preceded in death by a sister, Wilhelmenia and a brother, Alvin Garnett.
A viewing will be held Saturday, December 5, from 12 noon to 7 p.m. with a Christain wake from 7 to 8 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 6, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with Rev. Jared S. Beasley, pastor, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
