When the sun of life reaches its zenith, with the brightness of a well-spent life, when the passing comes, we can only say that a beautiful life has ended. The beautiful life of Vergie L. Miller, the daughter of the late Wilson B. and Ella Maude Miller ended on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the Sligo Creek Nursing Center in Takoma Park, MD.

Vergie was born on February 27, 1921 in Upper Zion, Virginia, a community that once existed as a part of what is now Fort A.P. Hill. Vergie was the youngest girl of 8 girls and 4 boys. Reared in a Christian home, she accepted Christ at an early age and was a very active member of the First Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sparta, Virginia. During her many years of church service, Vergie served as a Sunday school teacher, Senior Choir member, financial secretary of the Church, Chairperson for the annual Homecoming Services in August and many other auxiliaries of the church. In her later years she also enjoyed attending the St. James Baptist Church and considered it her other church home. Vergie attended school in Caroline County and graduated from Union High School in 1938. For many years she worked as a cook, housekeeper, caregiver and cafeteria worker at the high school.

Vergie was known for her delicious meals feeding her family and many friends. Vergie enjoyed her favorite TV shows, "The Price is Right", "Let's make a Deal" and "Family Feud", and talking on the telephone to her family and many friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory one remaining brother, Theodore L. Miller of Stafford, VA, one niece/daughter, June Miller Courtney (Greene) of Bowie, MD, whom she raised from the age of 3, Courtney V. Greene of Rome, GA and Benjamin C. Greene of Bowie, MD, Great niece and nephew who considered her to be great auntie/grandmother. Two devoted nephews, Robert W. Miller, Jr. and Michael W. Miller, who she could look for monthly to take her to medical appointments, shopping, cutting the grass, home repairs and many other things. Many devoted nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews other family and friends. Even though Vergie never married and had children of her own, she helped to raise many nieces and nephews, and was a faithful and devoted caregiver to her parents, brothers and sisters through their illnesses.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10th, from 4 to 8 PM at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Va. 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 11th, 2 PM at First Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 17065 Seals Road
Sparta, Va. 22552. Remains may be viewed from 1 to 2 PM.

The Celebration of Life Services will be officiated by; Rev. Dr. Charles F. Baugham, Pastor of St. James Baptist Church.

The eulogy will be delivered by; Rev. Otis L. Kay, Sr., Pastor.

Interment will be in the Church Cemetery.
