Viola W. Wright Shelton was born on April 12, 1936, to the late Allen James and Maria W. Harris-Wright in Caroline County, Virginia.

She attended the Caroline County Public Schools.  She was a hardworking woman who loved to plant in her garden.  Viola worked at Keller Industry until it closed and then worked at Fort A.P. Hill until retirement.  In her later years, she was a companion to elder residents in the surrounding areas.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Burton Wright, Sr. and then to the late James Shelton.

At an early age, she joined Saint John Baptist Church where she sang on the Church Choir and attended faithfully until her health began to fail.

On Saturday, August 6, 2022, she peacefully went to the call of our Savior

Viola was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon W. Coates and six siblings.  She leaves cherished memories to one son, Burton Wright, Jr. (Cordell); two daughters, Cynthia Derricott and Nancy Jordan (Edgar); grandson that she raised, Roneick Wright (Shanta); one brother, Raymond Wright, Sr. (Barbara); one sister, Elise Childs; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

Viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 12, 2022 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the funeral home with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia  22580
