On Tuesday, October 23, 2018, Tracey Lynette Simms Washington slipped peacefully into eternal rest at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born February 26, 1968 to the late Edmond "Shorty" Simms and Martha R. Simms. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Annette Simms, paternal grandmother, Flossie Elvira Simms and maternal grandparents, Nannie and Floyd Robinson.

Tracey accepted her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Second Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Milford, Virginia. She later moved her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church (New Site), Fredericksburg, Virginia where she played an active part in the praise dance and Women's Ministries. She was a faithful and dedicated member.

She was a 1986 graduate of Caroline High School, where she made many friends and was known for her infectious laugh and a smile that would light up the room. She would often talk about her time performing on the Pom Pom Squad. In 1994 she graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College with a degree in Business Management. Tracey was currently employed as an IT Project Manager with the General Services Administration. She often spoke about how grateful she was to be able to work from her home during her illness. She served thirty two years working for the Federal Government. Tracey accomplished many things. She was the founder of the Edmond "Shorty" Simms Memorial Scholarship, a scholarship in which she created in memory of her father. She served as treasurer for the Caroline County NAACP Branch. Her most recent accomplishment was a contributing author for the "Faith for Fiery Trials" book. She was so excited about this accomplishment and was in the process of writing her "own story".

On June 9, 1994, Tracey and Anthony was blessed with a healthy baby boy. She adored A.J. and she was a true definition of a MOTHER! She was a true example of a "Football Mom" as she would always support her favorite player on the football field. Even if it meant travelling alone, she would be there to support A.J.

Many will share and cherish Tracey's memories along with her devoted son, Anthony J. Washington; devoted mother Martha R. Simms; siblings, Edmond "Squirt" Baylor (Christine), Mark Simms, Angie Tyler-Tann and Cynthia Byrd; nieces, AshLee Simms (her mini me), Letita Baylor and Cherilyn Tyler; great niece, MaKaya Braxton, nephews, Steven Latney and Chrisofer Tyler; great nephews, Devin Walker and Noah Simms; aunts Mae Simms Boggs and Ivory Simms; uncle, Franklin Robinson and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427, with family receiving friends from from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Caroline Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia 22514 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
