Thurston Gilbert Thornton, Jr., 72, entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 21, at Ashland Nursing and Rehab. Center, in Ashland, Virginia.
Gilbert was the son of Anna Marie Gray Thornton and the late Thurston G. Thornton, Sr. of Bowling Green, Virginia.
He was born in Bowling Green, Virginia on January 15, 1942. He graduated from Union High School in Caroline County. He was married to the late Madeline Fells of Dawn, Virginia. Gilbert worked for the Richmond Public School System, Caroline County Public School and retired from J. C. Penney Company.
He is survived by his mother, Anna M. Gray Thornton of Bowling Green; two sons, Micheal Tarrer, Sr. and his wife Barbara of Glen Allen; Thurston G. "TG" Thornton, III of Fredricksburg; two grandsons, Micheal Tarrer, Jr., and Marcus Tarrer; one granddaughter, Morgan Marie Tarrer; special friend, Karen Winston and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, April 25, from 12 to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at First Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 17065 Seal Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427. Burial will be private.
