Thomas Eugene Monroe was born on September 9, 1940 in Caroline County to the late Albert LeRoy and Rosa Lee Monroe. He departed this life unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.


Tom received his education in the Caroline County Public School system. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. John Baptist Church.


Tom worked at Foreign Domestic Lumber Mill for 29 years and later worked for the Caroline County Public School system as a maintenance worker for 15 years. Tom had a love for gardening, fishing and playing the guitar.


Tom was united in Holy Matrimony on October 8, 1966 to Sally Ann Smith.


Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Leroy and Rose Lee Monroe; two brothers, Willis Monroe, III and Roosevelt Monroe and three sisters, Anna Washington, Mary Maloy, and Elizabeth Rock.


Tom leaves to cherish his memory, a devoted wife, Sally Ann Monroe, two sons, Thomas Monroe (Bernadine) and Jerome Monroe, both of Ruther Glen; one daughter, Gloria William of Bowling Green; four brothers, Eddie Monroe, LeRoy Monroe, Jr.(Ethel), Julian Monroe, and Walter Monroe (Judy), all of Bowling Green; one brother-in law, Melvin Maloy; one sister-in law, Frances Washington; one aunt, Ann Smith of Ruther Glen; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Visitation: Friday, March 23, 2012 from noon to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc.

Funeral: Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Elvis R. Ferguson will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow at the Jehovah's Witness Cemetery in Ruther Glen.
