Thelma Anderson Taylor entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Elizabeth House in Glen Allen, Virginia surrounded by family. She was born on May 21, 1934, in King William County, Virginia, to the late Willie and Sarah Anderson.
She joined Mangohick Baptist Church in the early years of her life. She attended Rucker School in King William, and for her secondary years of schools, she attended King William Training School.
She was married for thirty years to the late Welford Taylor until his early death in 1996. They were blessed with four children, Jerome, Carmellia, Clayton and Marvin.
Thelma worked for Caroline County Public Schools as a bus driver before retiring after 29 years of service. She also worked various summer jobs while on break from driving the school bus. Thelma loved sewing, crocheting and flowers and was very skilled in creating curtains for her home and clothes from McCall's patterns. She spent many hours crocheting pot holders, knee warmers and full-sized blankets.
In addition to her husband, Thelma was preceded in death by one brother, James Anderson and two sisters, Nell Anderson and Sharon Anderson.
She leaves cherished memories to her four children: Jerome (Diahann) Fields, Carmellia Fields Washington, Clayton (Denise) Taylor and Marvin Taylor; seven grandchildren: Marshall Washington Jr., Malcolm (Kathy) Washington, Stephanie (Anthony) Fox, Lashaun Fields, Latrice (Wendell) Goodall, Marvin J. Taylor, Jr. and Trina (Ben) Givens; seven great grandchildren, Malcolm Washington, Jr., Asiah Washington, Tayshon Fox, Gabrielle Goodall, Shane Givens, Nia Givens and Liam Givens; one brother, Willie Jefferson Anderson and two sisters, Mozell Anderson Fields and Rebecca Anderson Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at Mangohick Baptist Church, 147 Mangohick Church Road, Hanover, Virginia 23069 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
