Obituary

Susie Ethel Martin Woolfolk, departed this life quietly on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the Bowling Green Health & Rehabilitation Center. Susie was born on September 18, 1925, in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Freddie Douglas Martin and Oscie Virginia Miller Martin. Susie was raised with her eight siblings in Bowling Green, Virginia. She received her formal education through the Caroline County school system.

Susie gave her life to Christ at an early age and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Virginia. As a member there she served as a Deaconess, member of the Senior Choir, member of the hospitality committee, and a proud member of the Heavenly Bound Mass Choir for many years. Susie was a kind-hearted, loving woman of great faith, humbly serving the Lord and her church family until her health declined.

On June 1, 1943, Susie was joined in holy matrimony to the late Alfred T. Woolfolk, Sr. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage and four children.

Being a humble, quiet spirited woman, Susie never required much for herself. She spent her life taking care of her children and anyone else's needs, fully operating in the gift of hospitality. All were welcomed at her home. Family was important to her and was made to feel welcome as well.

Susie worked a variety of jobs serving as a domestic worker which included the Bowling Green Inn, the Law Office of Attorney Albert Lilly, and the Law Office of Attorney George Davis, III and retiring after 45 years of service in 2002. Her life after retirement was spent relaxing and occasional travel but most of all she loved reading the Bible daily and spending time with her family. Her hobbies included working cross word puzzles, watching her favorite shows on Food Network, Hallmark channels and the Family Feud.

Susie was preceded in death by her daughter, Ethel Woolfolk Carter, son Randolph Woolfolk, grandson Daniel Woolfolk and her siblings; Gladys, Willie, George, Eula, Ossie, Lenora, and Sally all whom she cherished.

Susie leaves cherished memories to her loving sons, Alfred T. Woolfolk, Jr., and Irving L. Woolfolk, Sr.; daughters-in-laws, Virginia Woolfolk, Deborah Woolfolk, and Edwina Woolfolk; one son-in-law, David Carter; 15 grandchildren; Kimberly, Bridgette, Natalie,  Bryant, David Jr., Lolita, Irving Jr., Michael, Breta, Randreia, Randolph III, Alyson, Mark, and Ericka (who served as her devoted caregiver), 43 great-grandchildren, 40 great-great grandchildren, a loving sister Shirley Boulware and brother-in-law Ryland Boulware and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
