Susie Mae Childs was born on July 22, 1953, to the late Ollie Whiting. She departed this life on September 6, 2019, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She received her education in the Caroline County Public Schools and graduated from Union High School in the Class of 1972. She accepted Christ and joined Shiloh Baptist Church at a young age.

She worked for Exxon and Family Dollar, as well as several other jobs throughout her life. She always had a smile on her face when she greeted customers, no matter how she felt.

Susie was united in holy matrimony to James Lamar Childs on December 15, 1988 and they were the proud parents of one child, Tiffany Childs.

Sue, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and mastering puzzle books. She had a heart of gold and was extremely passionate about taking care of her family and home.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, John Henry and Florence Parker; and two brothers-in-law, John and Clyde Childs.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 30 years, James L. Childs; her children, Tiffany Childs (Zachary), Krystle White and Corey Whiting (Dana); ten grandchildren; two sisters, Lola and Pearl; sister-in-law, Laraven Steffy (Brad); brother-in-law, Rodney Childs; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be private.
