Steven Edward Wilson, 84, son of the late Stephen E. and Matilda E. Lawson Wilson was born September 1, 1931 in Caroline County , Virginia. He departed this life peacefully at home on June 21, 2016 at 4:56 p.m.
Steven fondly known as "Sonny Boy" spent part of his early childhood in Caroline County. He attended the public schools in Caroline County and attended Virginia State University for two years.
At an early age he accepted Christ. He was joined in holy matrimony to Vernetta Wright. From this union three girls and one son were born. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from there with twenty one years, eight months and eleven days of service.
After retiring from the USAF, he was employed by Fort A.P. Hill as a supervisor for the Ammunition Supply Point. After retiring from there he was employed as a Department of Defense Officer for a number of years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, playing guitars, playing checkers with his brother and friends, and enjoying time with children and grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 58 years, Vernetta Wilson, of Woodford, Virginia; three daughters, JoAnne Wilson of Woodford, Virginia, Phyllis Wilson of Ladysmith, Virginia and Amy Widemon (Tony) of Texas; one son Steven Wilson (Ethel) of Tappahannock, Virginia; one brother, Henry A. Wilson; six grandchildren, Vernetta Winston Green, Jermaine Wilson, Desiree Widemon, Toni Widemon, Rodney Washington, Jr. Deamorti Washington and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8p.m., Monday, June 27, at C.W. Edwards Funeral 16476 Richmond Turnpike , Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour before the service on Tuesday.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 28 at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 S. River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580. Interment will follow at the Wright Family Cemetery, Michael's Road, Woodford, Virginia.
