Shirley Saunders Foxx, 66, of Bowling Green, departed this life on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at Southern Maryland Hospital Center, in Clinton, Maryland, after a brief illness. She was married to the late Melvin Foxx.

At an early age, she joined the Shiloh Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Virginia; and while at Shiloh, she was involved in many ministries such as The Little Rainbows, Church Archives, and the Youth Ministry.

Shirley graduated from Union High School in 1961 and continued her education at the University of the District of Columbia obtaining her Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees. She was employed with the Department of Defense for several years.

She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Melvin Foxx, Jr. of Temple Hills, Maryland; her mother, Carrie Saunders of Bowling Green; four brothers, Joseph Saunders and his wife, Jean of Maryland, James Saunders of Maryland, Alonza Saunders and his wife Ester of Temple Hills, Maryland and Edward Saunders of Bowling Green, Virginia; a devoted friend, Roosevelt Butler and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 6, from noon to 5 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Virginia.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 127 S. Main Street, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427, with the pastor, Rev. S. W. Kendall delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Woodford, Virginia.
