Shirley Jane Brown (Auntie) was born May 31, 1955, in Caroline County Va. She departed this life and gained her heavenly wings on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Spotsylvania Hospital.
Shirley was the matriarch and the nurturer of the family. Shirley was the third of Seven Children Born to the late Frank Brown and Matilda Shepherd-Brown.
Shirley received her education through the Caroline County Public Schools. She joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Va. at an early age.
She was employed at Keller Ladder Company for 30 years. Shirley later became employed at Hoover Wood Treatment Plant for 23 years.
Shirley loved to cook for everyone, and she loved her music, every Sunday and holidays we could always get a good meal at Shirley and Steve's house.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Matilda Brown Siblings; Charles Shepherd, Frank Brown, Dorothy Brown-Berry, Delores Brown, Edward Brown, John Brown, Cynthia Ferguson and nephew Kevin Pleasants.
She leaves to cherish fond memories with her loving and devoted life partner of 45 years: Steve Gray of Milford, Va. a devoted and loving Niece/Daughter: Cathy Brown-Gillis (Tracey) of Richmond, VA, a devoted and loving nephew/ Son: Brian Brown (Kira) of Port Royal, a devoted and loving Sister-in-law Sandra Brown, Sister-in-laws: Ophelia Shepherd, Letisha Brown, Debbie Brown, Joann Gray, Joyce Grey, Tappahannock, VA, and Delphin Gray, Philadelphia, Brothers-in-Law: Thomas Gray, Ricky Gray, Michael Gray and Frankie Chapman. a devoted cousin and care giver: Sophia Shepherd-Wormley and a lifelong best friend: Thelma C. Alexander and a host if nieces, nephews, family and friends
Although Shirley never had any biological children, she loved, nurtured, disciplined and cared for all of her nieces, nephews and countless others. "Auntie" as we all affectionately call her will definitely be missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at St James Baptist Church, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wrightsville, Rd, Bowling Green, Virginia.
