On September 15, 2022, Sheila Morton of Newtown, Virginia received her wings and went to walk with the angels. She was seventy-four years old.

Sheila Fern Johnson Morton was born to the late Minnie and Harold Johnson on February 28, 1948.

Sheila had multiple careers including the proprietor of a local grocery store and as a financial analyst for the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Sheila could always be counted on for a hearty laugh given her quick wit. She supported community causes--especially those for kids and the elderly.  Before her health declined, she enjoyed gardening, making homemade fruit wine, listening to old-school music, and working her lottery numbers.

Sheila leaves loving and precious memories to her husband of fifty-five years, Jessie H. Morton, Jr., and four children; Cynthia Johnson, Evangela Waite, Elgie Morton (Denika), and Jessie H. Morton III (Crystal), and a bonus son/grandson, Brenton Harris; her adored grandchildren: Jacquelle Winfield, Demi Morton, Ian Morton, Denae Lancaster, Jessica Morton, Erin Morton, and Shiquita Fleming; two brothers: Harold Johnson Jr., and Manuel Johnson; sisters-in-law; Shirley Monroe, Mary Gladys Washington, and Blanche Childs; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

Sheila was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind many beautiful memories. She was the wind beneath our wings.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 7820 Newtown Road, Newtown, Virginia  23126 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Due to COVID-19 a mask or face covering will be required.
