Homegoing Celebration for Sharon Venis Woodfolk Dickerson

A Life Reflection

On the afternoon of July 25, 2026, our Heavenly Father whispered into the ear of Sharon that she had finished her earthly journey and that He was ready to receive her into her eternal home. She had a strong battle with T-cell lymphoma and was lovingly surrounded by her family during her transition. Although she left sooner than any of us would have desired, she was a strong woman of faith who unselfishly gave of herself and loved others with her full heart.

In the beginning-

Sharon was born on May 30, 1955, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia to the late Hausey Lee Woodfolk, Sr. and Dollie Mae Woodfolk. She was the sixth of seven siblings.

Steps of Faith & Service-

At an early age, Sharon accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and joined Zion Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Samuel Haskey Carter, Sr. Throughout her life, she faithfully served her church in numerous capacities. She was a devoted member of the Rosebud Choir, Youth Choir, Baptist Training Union, Missionary Ministry, Pastor's Aide, Deaconess Ministry, and the Ushers Ministry, where she loyally served as both a member and secretary for many years. She also served as Secretary of Sunday School, Secretary for the Diaconate Ministry, and President of the Deaconess Ministry.

Career and Acknowledgements-

Sharon attended Union High School, then known as Bowling Green Senior High School, and graduated with the Class of 1973.

After graduation, she was employed by Keller Ladder, Fort A.P. Hill Mess Hall, and Rappahannock Sportswear where she worked dependably with her twin sister Shelia. She later became employed with Best Products, where she enjoyed purchasing toys, clothes, and tricycles for her nieces and nephews. Sharon also drove for Groome Transportation, making regular trips between Richmond, Virginia and Reagan National Airport. She then drove for RACSB assisting disabled clients with their transportation needs. As she neared the end of her career, she joined Caroline County Public Schools and Fredericksburg City Public Schools as a dedicated school bus driver. Because of her outstanding service with Fredericksburg Public Schools, Sharon received a Certificate of Excellence and was honored as School Bus Driver of the Year for two consecutive years. Upon her retirement, she was recognized for 15 years of exceptional service, a testament to her commitment, professionalism, and care for the students she safely transported each day.

Marriage & Family

On October 20, 1979, Sharon Venis Woodfolk was united in Holy Matrimony to Rev. Michael Leonard Dickerson. From this loving union, one daughter, Pamela Michele Dickerson of Suffolk, Virginia was born. Sharon devoted her life to affectionately caring for her husband and daughter. She was the consummate wife and mother who met their needs and supported her family in all their endeavors. She was perfectly content in allowing her family to shine while she remained in the background as a steadfast solid support and foundation for them. Michael and Michele owe their successes to the love, freedom and guiding hand of Sharon who desired only the best for them both. Sharon and Michael would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on October 20, 2026, and have been together as an inseparable couple for 51 years.

Sharon was known for her delectable 7UP cakes. She would generously bake these and give them away because she enjoyed bringing happiness through her baking which her family and friends truly appreciated. Sharon always made herself available to assist others once she was sure that her husband and daughter were taken care of. She was well known for being a quiet, tender soul whose kindness spoke louder than any word.

Sharon was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend who dearly loved her family and treasured spending time with them. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 121, and her favorite hymn was "Lead Me, Guide Me." These both reflected her unwavering faith and trust in God's guidance throughout her life. During her most recent health challenge, Sharon took comfort in a new favorite scripture, Psalm 103, which spoke to her of God’s benefits and is a psalm of praise demonstrating the Father’s compassion and immeasurable love.

Sharon was preceded in death by her eldest brother, Hausey Lee Woodfolk, Jr.

Sharon was dearly loved and her memory will be everlasting in the hearts of her husband, Rev. Michael L. Dickerson, daughter, P. Michele Dickerson; Five loving siblings: Alice M. Kenny and Gloria B. Reynolds, both of Woodford, Virginia; Juanita L. Hill of Stafford, Virginia; William H. Woodfolk and her cherished twin sister Shelia B. Foster, both of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She also leaves behind her adored godchildren: Tabitha M. Taylor, McKhyl L. Dickerson, LaKaiah V. Foster, Savon L.L. Foster, and Riele Z. Foster.

Sharon’s life we honor, her departure we accept, and her memory we treasure, as she rejoices now in the presence of her Lord and Savior!
