Shamar Armanti Coleman, age 24, of Midlothian, Virginia, gained his wings after a lifelong battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy on July 28, 2025. He was born on June 5, 2001, to Robert Coleman Jr. and Olisa Cabarris.

Shamar graduated from Caroline County High School in May 2019. The following month, he was honored with the Remarkable Perseverance Award. Shamar was the first student in the history of Children's Hospital to be awarded a standard diploma, an incredible achievement that reflected his strength and determination.

Shamar had a deep, personal relationship with God. Though he did not attend a formal church, his faith was sincere and unwavering. He lived according to the values he found in scripture: kindness, humility, and love. His belief in God was not just something he spoke of; it was something he carried in his heart and lived. In spite of his physical challenges, Shamar always maintained a smile. He often encouraged others to "let things go," offering wisdom and comfort with a calming spirit.

He enjoyed reading his Bible and listening to gospel music, especially his favorite song, "I Never Would Have Made It." Shamar had a love for wrestling, was a devoted supporter of the New York Giants, and found joy in playing video games with his bonus brother, Bubbie. He also took pleasure in collecting unique and meaningful items.

Shamar is now reunited with his great-grandmother, Ruby Ware; grandparents, Doris Minor and Harvey Wilson; uncles, Cornelius Wilson, Harvey A. Wilson, Daniel Minor, and Charles Coleman; and his siblings, Ra-Sheem White and Aronia Cabarris.

He is remembered by his father, Robert Coleman Jr.; his mother, Olisa Cabarris; his paternal aunt and bonus mom, Ramonda Carter (Rodney); and his grandparents, Robert Coleman Sr. (Loretta) and Peggy Wilson.

Shamar leaves behind his siblings: Taiyana Fortune (Gabrielle), Tyesha Mickens-Moore, A'Jona Stevenson, A'Tese Pratt, and Eniya Coleman, along with two beloved bonus siblings, Jazmin Coleman and Jamie Washington Jr.

He is survived by his aunts and uncles: Chester Pratt Jr., Aretha Pratt, Tamira Wilson, Thresa Johnson (Andre), Latonya Oliver (Jason Sr.), Sadarnie Coleman, Ciara Coleman, Charles Minor Jr., Boyd Minor, Aaron Minor, and Benjamin Minor.

He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, mentors, his bonus family from Max Care Health and Residential Medical Team, and dedicated staff members from Children's Hospital. We want to extend a special thanks to Bishop Kevin Graham for his many years of mentoring, love, and support, and to Theodore Patrick (Teddy) for being his caretaker and best friend through the years. Shamar had a lasting friendship with Kyle Jenkins for over twelve years.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to each and every person who helped, supported, and loved Shamar throughout his life. Shamar will be truly missed by all of us.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Caroline Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia 22514 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment  will follow in Mt. Lawn Cemetery , 9316 Woodford Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
