Samuel Gordon Johnson, affectionately known as 'Bucky' entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his home in Central Point, Virginia.

Bucky was born on October 14, 1949, to the late Samuel B. Johnson and Thelma B. Johnson in Philadelphia, PA.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents who raised him, Susie and Willie Jeter.

Bucky became a member of St. Stephen's Baptist Church at an early age.  He was a member of the Youth Choir under the direction of Ruth Wilson and also served as an usher.

Bucky was educated in the Caroline County Public Schools, starting in the two room Central Point School and graduating from Union High School in 1967.  In school, Bucky did well in Science, Biology and Math.  He continued his education learning a mechanical trade at Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Virginia.

Bucky demonstrated a good work ethic early in life that continued throughout his career.  As a teenager, he helped his grandfather on the farm. While in high school he worked in the pine setting industry for B. A Tignor, Sr.  After completing his trade schooling, Bucky worked for Carter Brothers Recapping; Rappahannock Electric Cooperative in the Right-A-Way Department; Continental Telephone Corporation in the Construction Department, all located in Bowling Green, VA.  He later worked for a subcontracting company working for Woodlawn Construction based out of Glen Allen, Virginia.  Lastly, Martin Marietta at the Doswell Quarry location, retiring in 2015.  Throughout his employment, he showed dedication and commitment to his employers and the companies who employed him.

Bucky was a gun enthusiast, collecting guns and ammo.  He didn't just collect ammunition but perfected the skill as a sharpshooter.   In his early twenties and mid-thirties, his grandfather and uncles raised hogs for food.  With his quiet demeanor, they could always count on Bucky to show up early on Thanksgiving morning with excellent aim and accuracy.  He perfected the skill of a marksman, one bullet per hog.  He was also very skilled at ground hog hunting.

Bucky was a quiet, peaceful and easy-going person.  He wasn't one to allow things to bother him and if he was troubled, he didn't show it.  He didn't start trouble, and he didn't want trouble.  However, if you ever found yourself in a compromising situation, he proved to be a loyal friend and always had your back. P. E. Boyd Byrd's Store in Central Point had a pool table and a jukebox.  Bucky perfected the game of pool.  He wasn't one to challenge you to play against him but if he played, he normally won.  When it came to the jukebox, most people played songs they knew or had already heard.  Bucky would always select new songs that were added bi-weekly.  He loved R&B music and two of the new selections on the jukebox that became favorites were 'If You Don't Know Me by Now' by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes (1972) and 'God Bless Whoever Sent You' by The Originals (1976).  Bucky enjoyed sports cars, especially his 1971 red and black Chevrolet Camaro Z28.  Driving long distances didn't bother him, day or night, if he wanted to go, he would just drive with no real destination in mind.  Bucky was a collector of hardware tools and never seemed to have enough in his toolkit.  He was an animal lover, especially cats.  After retirement, Bucky stayed informed on current events, medical information and politics and was very savvy at researching and fact-finding online.  Bucky's genuine and mischievous smile will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Bucky leaves to cherish his memory, his younger brother, Keith Randall Johnson, Sr., (Elsie); one nephew, Keith R Johnson, Jr., (Kristi); one niece, Thelma Lorraine Johnson (Mike); and one great niece, April Haskins all of Milford, Viginia and a host of cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. Chapel.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 3:30pm at St. Stephens Baptist Church, 29436 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514.
