Bowling Green

Obituary

Rosalind Octavia Alsop quietly departed this life on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the Bowling Green Health and Rehabilitation facility after a brief illness. She was born on September 28, 1929, in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Jessie James Frye, Sr. and Inez Maude Redd.  Affectionately known as 'Miss Octavie', she was educated in the Caroline County public school system.  She accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized, and joined Second Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia, where she attended regularly until her health began to fail.

She was joined in holy matrimony to the late James 'Jimmy' Harding Alsop on November 2, 1949, and the union lasted for forty-six years. From this union, they were blessed with three sons and two daughters. Never one to be shy or bite her tongue, she had her own unique way of letting you know she cared and where she stood, especially when it came to her children.  She loved her family fiercely and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents and husband, 'Miss Octavie' was also preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore Frye and Jessie James Frye, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory; one brother, Thomas 'Tommy' Frye; sons, Dervell 'Teddy' (Cheryl), James 'Fish' (Anita), and Anthony 'Tony' (Debra); daughters, Robinette 'Inez' Ford, and VyCurtis 'Snoot' Noel (Edmond); stepson, Levi (Ann) Henson; cousin and lifelong friend, Joyce (Leroy) Hicks; sister-in-law, Margaret (Paul) Aaron; one niece, Bertina (Hampton) Brown; one nephew Ricardo (Lavenia) Frye; fourteen grandchildren, Kimberly Byers, Renee Ford, Turkessha Mosley, James Noel, Ja'Kema Drayton, Ronald Ford, Jr., Jaime Alsop, Adriane Noel, Vermecia Alsop, James Alsop, Jr., Jeremy Alsop, Tyasha Harrison, Ra'shel Anderson, and Myron Blissett; 16 great-grandchildren, Patricia, Ryan, Ronnie, Ellie, Aaron, Tiyel, Stacee, Tiernan, Kaden, Kiernan, Kellen, Ayana, Jacob, Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Josie; great-nephew Christopher (April) Brown; devoted neighbor Fannie Garnett; friends Ivory Mae and Martha Simms; lifelong friends/children Rev.
