Obituary

Roosevelt Orlando Childs Sr. gained his wings late on Thursday evening, December 9, 2021, at home with his family. He was born to the late Hattie Anderson and Lenwood Childs on December 1, 1940 in Caroline County. He accepted Christ and joined Saint James Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia at the age of 9. He attended Union High School in Bowling Green, Virginia.

Roosevelt married the love of his life, Charlotte Allen Rollins on September 22, 1957 at Reverend Guss's home. From this union, three wonderful boys were born; Robert, Roosevelt Jr., and Kenny.

Roosevelt was a pillar of his community and established his own business, R.O. Childs Landscaping, over 60 years ago servicing the residents of Caroline County and surrounding areas. He also worked at Union Bank and Trust for over 30 years and retired in 2008.

As a dedicated member of Saint James, Roosevelt, had many roles in the church. He served as the Church Treasurer, Chairman of the Trustee Board, a member of the Budget Finance Committee, Usher Ministry, Men's Ministry, and Van Ministry. He was also the President of the Cemetery Committee. Roosevelt was a firm believer in tithing and also gave freely of his time and other resources to his church.

Roosevelt will be remembered as a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Roosevelt was preceded in death by five in-laws; cousin/son Edmond Childs; and five best friends William Sayles, John Latney, Phillip Lee, Melvin Shepherd, and Jimmy Shepherd.

His passing leaves a void in the lives of many who will cherish fond memories: his wife Charlotte; three sons, Robert (Kitty), Roosevelt Jr., and Kenny; god daughter, Alexcia Le'tia Rollins; three grandchildren, Delont'e (Katherine), Breana, and India; great-grand daughter, Giselle; sister-in-law, Claire; cousin Mary Deyo, devoted friends; Shirely Latney and family, Tony George & family, Charles Davis, Buster & Blanche Fortune, Fred & Lavarro Minor, Sandra Minor, Derrick Lindsey, Frankie Chapman; and many other relatives & friends.

A walk through viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A celebration of life  service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at  Caroline Community Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in St. James Baptist Church Cemetery, 19514 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514.

Due to COVID 19 a mask or face covering is required.
