Robert Alford Samuel, Sr.,62, of Bowling Green, Virginia entered eternal rest on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA.

Born on December 20, 1954. Robert Alford Samuel was the oldest child of the late Chester and Eula Samuel. Bobby accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and became a fixture at St. Stephens Baptist Church. He was educated in the Caroline School system and was part of the first class to integrate Bowling Green Senior High School. a star basketball and baseball player in high school, Bobby was a part of many winning teams.

Bobby attended Virginia State University in 1973 with hopes of extending his basketball career. However, injuries and his "aching knees" would end that dream too early. Bobby returned to Caroline and worked at G.C. Murphy in Fredericksburg and at Keller ladder plant in Milford. He later pursed his passion as a house painter and overall handyman in Caroline and surrounding counties. he also specialized in demolition where as he put it, he could "tear something up".

Bobby was married to the former Cynthia (Cindy) Smith in 1980 and together they raised four children; TaShae, Tyra, Tiffany and Robert. Bobby truly loved his wife and children moving them from Caroline to Richmond in search of a better life. Shortly after his wife's death he and the children returned to Caroline.

An avid sports fan, Bobby was perhaps the biggest Redskin fan in the world and was too proud when the redskins won their three Super Bowls. During the down years he would he would say as long as "we" beat the Cowboys it's ok. As a baseball fan, Bobby loved the "Yankees". His early dream was to replace Mickey Mantle as the Yankees center fielder. Unlike the millions of other kids who wanted to play for the Yankees, Bobby actually had real talent. His father made Bobby into a left handed hitter so he could take advantage of his power of speed. Who knows what could have happened if he hadn't focus on basketball.

On November 15, 2017 at 11:55 a.m., Bobby's long and courageous battle with throat cancer ended. He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children; TaShae, Tyra, Tiffany and Robert; seven grandchildren; one sister Jacquelin Jeter ( Truett) of Bowling Green, Virginia; aunts, Emma Samuel Vaughn of Columbia, Maryland, Shirley Boulware ( Ryland) and Sallie Boulware both of Ladysmith, Virginia, Susie Wolfolk and Lucille Martin both of Bowling Green, Virginia; childhood friend Floyd Thomas and a host of cousins and friends.


A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. Stephen's Baptist Church, 29436 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514. Interment will be private.
