Robert Alfred Parker was born on September 6, 1930 in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Alfred and Adeline Parker. Robert departed this life on August 28, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Robert received his education in the public school system of Caroline County, Virginia, where he grew up. He joined Third Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age where he was also baptized. He could be counted on many a Sunday to park cars for the church.
Robert was employed with the Virginia Department of Transportation for 42 years before his retirement in 1996. He was also employed with Pitts Automotive in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His favorite past times were cutting grass, hunting, fishing, watching baseball, and cheering for the Washington Redskins.
Robert was married to Dorothy Parker and to union six children were born.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Parker and two brothers: Peter and John Henry Parker.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters: Brenda Sullivan (William) of Spotsylvania, Virginia and Linda Parker of Fredericksburg, Virginia; three sons: Robert Parker of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Kenneth Parker (Diane) and Allen Parker (Lameka) of Spotsylvania, Virginia; two sisters: Edna Mae Parker and Mary Jane Wilson (Bobby; one sister-in-law, Florence Parker; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing will be from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 31, 2012 at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Third Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 9132 Fredericksburg Turnpike, Woodford, Virginia 22580 with Pastor Antonio Baker, Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Third Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 13121 Woodford Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
