Obituary

Robert Isadore Johnson departed this life quietly on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at his residence in Hustle, Virginia. He was born on January 9, 1933 to the late Clarence and Irene Johnson.

At an early age, he joined First Baptist Church, Loretto, Virginia where he sang in the choir and attended the Sunday School Union. He recently joined the St. Stephens Baptist Church, Milford, Virginia.

Robert was a 1950 graduate of Union High School. He later joined the United States Army where he received many awards and a bronze medal while serving in combat in Korea. Sgt. First Class Robert Johnson served his country well.

Tuck, as he was fondly called, was a devoted husband,father and a great provider in his own special way.

He had a wonderful career beginning with Cummings General Tire Company, a cab driver, a waiter and later in life he retired after 30 years from the United States Postal Service as a manager in Washington, D.C.

June 13, 1953 he was joined in holy matrimony to Lois Telmedge Fortune. This marriage spanned 62 years. From this union three children were born; Mara Lane, Robert Jr. and Van Eric Johnson.

Robert leaves to cherish his loving memories,a devoted and loving wife, Lois Johnson, a daddy's girl, Mara L. Johnson of Baltimore, Md., Robert Johnson, Jr. (Jackie) of Modesta, California and Van Eric Johnson of Kansas City, Kansas. Four grandchildren; Gabriel, Brian, Elizabeth and Eric. Three sisters; Doris Jenkins of New Jersey, Marceline Butler,of Maryland and Theresa Eades of Washington, D.C. One brother, Franklin Johnson of Hustle, Virginia. One aunt Louise Young, of Hustle, Virginia. Four sisters-in-law, Martha Lumpkins of Districts Heights, Maryland; Cora Byrd of Newtown, Virginia, Gloria Rollins of Tappahannock, Virginia and Margie Gray (Jimmy) of Caret, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13, at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc., 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427, with a viewing one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Stephen's Baptist Church, 29436 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514.
