Obituary

Robert Lowell Gayles was born August 10, 1932 at Freedman's Hospital/Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. He departed this life Monday, November 23, 2020, at Our House Assisted Living facility in Millersville, MD. He was born to the late Pearly and Sylvia Roberta Gayle.

Robert received his formal education from Drew Elementary School and Hoffman Boston High School in Arlington, VA. He joined the US Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal AR 672-15.

Robert was baptized and attended the Third Street Church of God in Christ, Washington, DC. His favorite scripture was Acts 17:26. He loved getting into deep discussions about the Bible. His favorite football team was The New England Patriots, and his favorite quarterback was Tom Brady.

Robert was employed at Ceco Steel Products, Inc. in Washington, DC. He also was employed as a laborer for over 30 years at the Arlington County Government in Arlington, VA. Robert lived at Culpepper Gardens in Arlington, VA. There he met a very dear friend and his buddy, Willie Watts. He also had a wonderful, sweet friend Sandy Harris, whom he loved and would give "Kisses-Kisses" every night.

Robert came to live with his cousins Martina and Gerald in September 2014. He called Gerald "The Main Man". He resided at "Our House Assisted Living Facility" for 6½ years, at which time he met wonderful friends and nursing CNA's Marty, Jackie, Chyna, Blondie, and his precious Kathleen "Kat" whom he called "The Captain of the Ship", friends Mr. Al, Mr. Jay and his ride and die partner, Uncle Fred. Uncle Fred would pick them up three days a week and drive them to the Annapolis Senior Center.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Pearly and Sylvia Roberta Gayle, brother Leslie and sister Sarah.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving brother, Roy Ross (Dee), loving and devoted cousins Martina (Gerald), and Andrew Woolfolk. Nephews, Ray Jones (Cathy), Reginald Jones (Carol), Roy Gayle, Jr. (Zita), Timothy Gayle, and Jamall Gayle (Carla). Nieces, Vonda Brawner (Danny) and Daisy Carter-Henry (Charlton), and a host of great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

Interment will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in  Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.

Due to COVID-19 a mask or face covering is required upon entering the funeral home.
