Ricky Byrd, Sr., known affectionately as "Pete" was called home on Tuesday September 22, 2020 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Ricky was born on January, 8th 1954, to the late Andrew Byrd, Sr. and Mable Byrd.

He was preceded in death by one brother Andrew Byrd, Sr., two sisters Patricia Anne Byrd, and Jacquelyn E. Byrd Wright.

Ricky accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Beulah Baptist Church Woodford, VA.

He attended Union High School where he played football and played in the band.

After high school he went to work at Gatewood's Garage and later went on to work at Southland (McLane Mid-Atlantic).

Ricky loved being a mechanic. When someone called him and asked what he was doing he would usually reply "I'm working on a car."

His other passion was music. He won several awards for his car sound system. You would hear his base and people would say here comes Ricky. He  was a member of the Stone Pleasure Band where he played the bass guitar. Ricky also loved racing and boxing.

His children and grandchildren will miss listening to all his wild and crazy   stories. He always gave you a good laugh. They will miss him fussing when trying to pay him for working on their cars. They will miss watching him try to play with the grandchildren even though he was in pain. Most of all they will miss all of the love and advice he gave, and when you did something for him, the way he would always say "thank you here!"

He leaves fond and cherished memories to three daughters; Nadene Branham (Jonathan) Stafford, VA, Monica Johnson-Green, Atlanta, Georgia, and Tonya Scott (Bernard) Stafford, VA; two sons, Ricky Byrd, Jr. (Tajzsha) Spotsylvania, VA, and Rico (Melissa) Stafford, VA; 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; one brother Ronald Byrd (Phyllis); one sister Carolyn Jackson; one sister in law Hilda Byrd; two aunts Lelia Carter and Gloria Chatman; his ex wife and friend Gwendolyn Johnson (Byrd) of Spotsylvania, VA; special friend Deidre Batton of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A  walk through viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday October 02, 2020 at C.W.Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Homegoing Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday October 03, 2020 at H & L Brown Cemetery, 6100 Cedon Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
