David Mitchell Nettles, Sr. was born October 28, 1961 to Doris Lyles and the late Malford Gaither. At a young age he was adopted by the late Sam Nettles. Reverend Nettles was a native of Brooklyn, New York.

Reverend Nettles accepted the Lord at the age of 20 at the Word of God Church in Washington, D.C. under the late Apostle Robert Howard. He answered the call to ministry March 5, 1989 at Sanctuary Progressive Church in Frederick, Maryland under the leadership of the late Bishop Paul Kemp. His tenure included being the District and State Evangelist for the Jurisdiction. In 1996 he was ordained by Bishop Alfred Owens, Jr. in Washington, D.C. Reverend Nettles earned his Bachelor of Biblical Studies Degree in 2005 and his Bachelor of Theology Degree in May of 2010 from Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary. He was currently enrolled in the masters program, majoring in Religious Education at Triangle Bible Institute. He was currently serving in the Evangelist Ministry at Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Alfred Jones, Jr.

Reverend Nettles was installed as Pastor of Family Life Ministries COGIC in Sparta, Virginia from 2000 to 2006 under the leadership of Superintendent, Pastor Jack Johnson (Richmond Metropolitan District). He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed community fellowships. His favorite scripture was Joshua 24:15.

Reverend Nettles was preceded in death by his father and brother, Sam Joe.

He leaves to cherish his many memories; his mother, Doris Nettles; three beautiful children, Kisha Nettles, Jennifer Nettles, and David Nettles, Jr.; one daughter in law Vanessa Nettles; three grandchildren, Nathan, David, III and Sherrie; former loves of his life, Vera Nettles (mother of his children) and Jermaine Brown; one sister, Linda Nettles-Via; brother, Jeffery Nettles; nephew Anthony Nettles; and one brother in law, Jay Nettles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel Drive, Triangle, Virginia 22172 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
