Obituary

Raymond Gregory affectionately known as "Worm" passed away on Thursday December 17 th peacefully in his sleep at the home of his sister Shirley Harris, his brother Russell Salter, and his nephew Lamont Hampton. Raymond was born on June 17, 1946 in Jonesville South Carolina and is the 2 nd son of Lillie Mae Gregory and Herbert Gregory. As a young boy his family moved to Washington DC and he was drafted into the Vietnam War in October of 1966.

Raymond was active in the Army from October 18, 1966 until October 17, 1968. He managed to perfect his trade as a cement finisher, but was also a Howard University security guard and DC School bus driver. Along with his fulfilling career, his favorite pastime was frequenting the racetrack. He loved rice and tomatoes, was well known around the DC area, and loved to engage in conversation. He made time to encourage young men to join the military. He was humorous and would talk for hours to JB, Stan, Kevin, Ms. Allison, Ben, Jackson, and Willie on a consistent basis. Recently he had the opportunity to sit at talk with two of his grandsons from Baltimore and it warmed his heart that his daughter Margaret brought them to visit. We were blessed to have him accept more invites to family functions during the past 5 years, and he would sit and reminisce with Tara & Gene. We will miss his warm laugh.

Raymond is survived by his children, 3 daughters and 4 sons, his grandchildren, Aunt Lilli and Uncle Charles Jeffries, his sisters Shirley Harris, Joyce Scott and brother Russell Salter (Peter). A host of Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Elizabeth Smith and Thelma Washington. His brothers Charles Everett Gregory, Robert Earl Gregory. His grandsons Jai and Jordan Farrell. May they rest in eternal peace.
