Obituary

Phillip Carl Coleman was born on October 13, 1944 at home in Milford, VA and left this life on Earth to be with his Lord on January 6, 2026, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. He was the tenth of eleven children, and the second youngest.

Phillip gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at the family church, St. John Baptist Church in Woodford, VA. Phillip grew up on a farm in Milford, VA. His early schooling was in the Caroline County school system, including Union High School.

He was drafted into the United States Army where he served and fought in the Vietnam War with his two brothers Roy and Homer Coleman (United States Marine Corps). Phillip was honorably discharged. He started working at Keller Aluminum Plant in Milford, VA. He later worked as a Skycap at both Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Dulles International Airport where he worked for many years before retiring.

Phillip married Urcell (Brown) Coleman on August 30,1969, in Caroline County, VA. They were happily married for 56 years. From this loving union they were blessed with a daughter, Belinda Antoinette Jackson. He had a strong love and commitment for his family. He was very protective. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a devoted friend to anyone whom he encountered. He was definitely a people person and would spark conversations with strangers as if he had known them forever.

Phillip was the patriarch of his family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, and to share his knowledge with others. He was the go-to if you needed advice or a listening ear. He was always concerned about how others were feeling. He never sugar coated the truth and was unapologetically authentic. He was so very proud of the accomplishments of his grandchildren and made sure they and others knew it. He talked about them all the time. Phillip was known as Pops, PaPa, Redd, and Phil, but to his daughter Belinda, he was Deddy. He was also the uncle everyone adored. He loved to tell stories, especially about his childhood. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was the type to say something, and you didn't know if he was serious or joking. He loved it when the family got together. He loved to dance, listen to his oldies but goodies, and watch old westerns. Phillip loved horses, and fishing. While, he may have moved to the city at one point he was always a country boy at heart.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed Anderson and Rebecca Coleman and his maternal grandparents, Robert Wright and Elizabeth Wright. His parents, Garland Coleman, Sr. and Lottie Coleman. His siblings; Rose Smith, Warren Coleman, Garland (Waverly) Coleman, Jr., Thelma Carter, Lottie (Mickey) Smith, Raymond Coleman, Ed Coleman and Homer Coleman. Father-in-law, Reverend Nathaniel Brown; Mother-in-law, Eliza Brown; Brother-in-law, Sylvester Brown; Sister-in-law, Geneva Green; and Niece-in-law, Alicia White Foxx.

Phillip leaves to cherish his memory and to continue his legacy through his devoted wife, Urcell Coleman; daughter, Belinda Jackson (Timothy); loving grandchildren, Quanesha Jackson, LeRoyce Jackson, Carlvaun Jackson, Timothy Fortune (Ashley), Latea Fortune (Eric); sister, Barbara Wallace; brother, Roy Coleman. Sisters-in-law, Ilene Brown, Sandra Brown, Vurnia Fountain (Eddie), Vearline Jackson Brown; Brother-in-law, Virgil Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Phillip gave the gift of everlasting memories to many who will forever cherish his love and laughter. He brought a light into everyone's life that will never be forgotten. He will always be remembered.

"Goodbye is not forever. Goodbye is not the end. It simply means we'll miss you until we meet again."

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 S. River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
