Pernell A. Childs, affectionately known as "Perk" was born to the late Myrtle Boss Childs and Percell Sylvester Minor, Sr. on February 26, 1965.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint John Baptist Church in Woodford, Virginia. Educated in Caroline County he was a graduate in the Class of 1983. After graduation Pernell did a short stint in the United States Marine Corps.
Pernell worked summers at Fort A.P. Hill. He loved working with his hands and found his true calling as a carpenter under the watchful eye of the late Dan Curran. Pernell went on working as a carpenter for various other construction companies, lastly at the Prince William County Government.
In his spare time his favorite hobby was fishing with his buddy Wendell Toliver. He also loved a good game of Bid Whist and Spades.
Pernell was a very kind hearted giving person and was always willing to lend a helping hand if you had any type of projects .
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Freddie Childs.
He leaves to cherish his memories; one daughter, Asia Dawson; one son, Tavaz Childs; three sisters, Phyllis Perkins, Kathleen Minor Taylor and Mary Tyler; three brothers, Percell Minor, Jr. (Brenda) Wade Childs (Vanessa) and Walter Childs; a devoted niece, Rockie Carter (Sandy); one uncle, Reginald Minor (Evelyn); one aunt, Vivian Claxton and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday January 24, 2020 at C.W.Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling, Green, Virginia 22427
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Saint John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Reverend Antonio Clinkscales, will be delivering the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
