Perdita "Fris" Wright Fortune, formerly of Caroline County, Virginia, entered eternal rest on June 7, 2011, at Crescent Cities Center in Riverdale, Maryland.
Perdita Wright Fortune was born on October 19, 1920 in Caroline County, Virginia to the late Eddie and Betty Coleman.
Perdita was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Perdita's mother died at an early age; therefore, she was raised by her grandparents. Perdita was affectionately known as "Fris". She was the sister to six loving brothers who preceded her in death.
Perdita gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church in Woodford, Va.
Perdita later moved to Washington, D.C. and joined the Bibleway Temple Church where the late Bishop Williams was the Pastor. Perdita served many years faithfully as a member and served in the Helping Hands Club Ministies at Bibleway Temple Church and she also enjoyed cooking and serving at Bibleway.
In later years, she enjoyed fellowshipping at Jericho City of Praise in Landover, MD with her son (Robert, Jr.) and his family as often as she could. Perdita enjoyed cooking, baking, singing, and playing the piano.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Robert Clifton Fortune, Sr., two sons, Charles Wright, and Robert C. Fortune, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Flora (Ann) Fortune of Maryland; four grandchildren, Renee of Washington, D.C., and Keith Wright (Eboni), Bobbi LaKeesha Rudder (Jason), and Robert C. Fortune, III (Dorothy) of Maryland; eight great-grandchildren, Deen, Amir, Naim, Saman, Hassan Wright, Destiny and Jason Rudder, and Madison Bonolo Fortune, all of Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Perdita's life was enriched each time she was frequently visted by her sister-in-law, Ruth Wright, her nieces, Joyce (Steve), Darlene, and nephew Howard, her cousin, Susan Fowler and Michelle Proctor (the mother of two of her grandchildren, Renee and Keith Wright). Her face always illuminated with each phone call received by her niece Anita, and nephew Sammie of California.
Perdita's gentle, kind spirit, and beautiful smile will be missed by those who loved her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, 12 Noon to 8:00 P.M. at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home and also one hour before service time at the church.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Va. 22580, with Rev. Dr. W. G. Berryman, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Wright Family Cemetery.
