Upon leaving Caroline, Hamp was employed by US Geological Survey as a cartographer.  While in the Washington, DC area, he and his family became members of Corinthian Baptist Church, Hillcrest Heights Baptist Church, and Potomac Baptist Church. After retiring in 1984, and moving back to Caroline County, he then enjoyed many years of employment as a courier for Union Bank and Trust Company, Bowling Green, VA.

Hamp was ordained as a Deacon at Hillcrest Heights and joined the Board of Deacons at St. James upon his return.  He was also a faithful member of the Sunday school, Men's Club, Adult Ministry, van driver at St. James and an annual member of the Mattaponi Baptist Association.
