The second generation of the Derricott family concluded with the transition of Patricia Elaine Derricott Cary. In the early morning hours of April 27th, she heard God whisper, "come home My child." Patricia was the tenth child born to Clarence and Elver Derricott in the year of 1938. She was born in Caroline County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Clarence Monroe, Jr., Elizabeth, Thelma, Howard, Marie, Gordon, Earl, Dorothy, Raymond, and Alvin.

Derricott Legacy: The Derricott family were prominent members of the community. They expressed love, kindness, and an abundance of laughter along with strict guidelines to always "do what was right." They were a "no nonsense" type of people who knew something about every subject whether information was correct or totally wrong. Patricia inherited these traits which granted her insight on many topics. The Derricotts were full of humor. Always laughing and telling outrageous stories. Hey, expressed practical points of view, ending conversations with comical thoughts for one to ponder. Likewise, Patricia was indeed witty, funny, comical, and always jolly!

The Derricotts were wise and intelligent, in addition to being "over the top" with entertaining people. This well-known clan valued God and church, hard work, and their community. They offered home cooked meals to everybody, even to strangers who walked Route One Highway through Gum Tree.

Patricia attended Hanover County Public Schools and graduated in 1958 from John M. Gandy High School. In her yearbook, she was voted "most slow with completing assignments." Many of her classmates lived in Ashland, and in Brown Grove. As a teenager, "Tee" spent the weekends at her best friend's house, Virginia Hall. They walked to church, to baseball games and caught a ride to the movies. John M. Gandy High School was a happy place for them. They were the social girls of their group who always laughed together. They worked diligently to fine-tune their sense of humor. They were true "buddies" for many years.

While attending nursing school and working at Richmond Memorial Hospital, Patricia married Robert L. Cary, Sr., a quiet man who provided unconditionally for his family. The couple lived in Richmond, Virginia where three of their four children were born: Robert Jr. (Bobby), Anita, and Michael. When the family relocated to Gum Tree, Stacy was born. They raised their children in Gum Tree for several years next door to her mother's house before relocating to Caroline County. Her husband preceded her in death, 2001.

As a young child, Patricia became a member of her mother's church, Reedy Baptist. Living in Gum Tree afforded her the opportunity to attend Jerusalem Baptist Church being that it was located closer to home. In 1975, as an adult, Patricia returned to Caroline Country and re-established her membership at Reedy Baptist Church. She remained faithful to this "branch of Zion" until her health began to fail.  As a servant, she was a member of the choir, a faithful organizer with the hospitality committee, and a trustee. She was recently named "The Mother of the Church" at age eighty-six during the Homecoming Service in 2024. She would often say, "God expects you to work hard on a job, have good sense, be kind towards others, and say "thank you," then you can get somewhere in life."

The two jobs that spanned most of Patricia's life were working in the cafeteria and driving the school bus (24 years) for Caroline County Public Schools. She enjoyed both jobs to the fullest by sharing many conversations with coworkers and students. She found joy in giving the students cookies and candy. She laughed and joked while telling them how to behave while at school. She would faithfully report students who exhibited "bad behavior" on the bus. Once they returned to ride the bus again, she would say, "Let's try this again!"

Patricia enjoyed bus trips to the beach, shopping excursions, attending revivals, hearing male gospel singers, family gatherings, and cooking. She will be remembered as a "church goer", for her sense of humor, work ethic, passion for cooking, and as a "no nonsense" Mother. For those traits, we will always love her.

Patricia is survived by her dedicated children, Robert L. Cary, Jr., (Brenda), Anita, (Marshall), Michael, (Pamela), and Stacy, (Crystal). Her devoted grandchildren, Tiffany, Monica, Britt, Bracey, Zipporah, and Zion. Great-grandchildren, Christian, Ryla, Jeremy Jr., Na'yr, and Daelynn. She leaves to mourn; sisters-in-law, Carrie Cary, Cecelia Cary, and one brother-in-law, Curtis Harris. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Chip, the cat, will miss his beloved owner.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 06, 2025, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 16210 Short Cut Road, Doswell Virginia, 23047, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Belmont Cemetery, 11114 Mt. Hope Church Road, Doswell, Virginia, 23047
