Otis Rudolph Jones, Jr., the third of eight children born to the late Otis and Madeline Jones on February 10, 1958, departed this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Spotsylvania, Virginia.

"Rudy" as he was affectionately known by family and friends joined Jericho Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. R.F. Bowles. He attended Caroline County Public Schools. He was member of the class of 1977 of Ladysmith High School, where he was a proud member of the Ladysmith Yellow Jackets Varsity Football Team.

Otis worked for Exposiac Concrete Company of Spotsylvania, Virginia for  twenty three years as a concrete finisher. He married the former Carolyn Washington and this union was blessed with two daughters, Shemica and Shiaira . Otis loved his family and was a great outdoorsman . He will be sorely  missed by his family  and many friends, but we know that God has appointed for man a time to be born and a time to die. He has finished his sojourn on this earth , and we humbly bow to a God that is just and kind. Weeping endures for a night , but we look for joy to come in the morning.

Otis was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip A. Jones on December 27,2009.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters; Shemia Valencia and her husband Julian of Carrolton, Virginia and Shiara Jones of Newport News, Virginia; one grandson, Julian Valencia, Jr. of Carrolton, Virginia; three sisters, Vanessa Whiting and Deborah Jones of Ruther Glen, Virginia and Pamela Wright and her husband, Raymond of Ashland, Virginia; three brothers, Michael Jones and his wife Diane of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Jeffery Jones and Jerrold Jones and his wife Tracey of Spotsylvania, Virginia; six nephews; eight nieces; eight aunts; four uncles and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

So live, that when thy summons comes to join the innumberable caravan, which moves to that mysterious realm, where each shall take his chamber in the silent halls of death. Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night, scourged to his dungeon, but sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave, like one who wraps the drapery of his couch about him and lies down to pleasant dreams.

A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green , Virginia 22427 with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Jericho Baptist Church, 8435 Jericho Road, Ruther Glen, Virginia with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in First Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, 17065 Seals Road, Sparta, Virginia 22552.
