Obituary

Nathaniel Edward Johnson heard the call of the Master to come home and departed his life on September 6, 2019 at Bowling Green health and Rehabilitation Center. Nathaniel was born on October 8, 1935 to the late James and Bertha Johnson.

Nathaniel accepted Christ at an early age. For over twenty years, he was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Virginia, where he served on the Trustee Ministry until his health began to decline. He graduated from Union High School in 1957.

Nathaniel retired from Hechinger Building Company in Washington, D.C. before moving back to Caroline County to work part time with the Caroline County Sanitation Department.

Nathaniel was a kind hearted person who loved people and would do for others anything that he was able to do.

He was predeceased by two daughters; Brenda Johnson and Deloris Wallace; his sister; Gloria Mae Proctor; and his brother Oliver "Pee Wee" Johnson.

Nathaniel leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 18 years, Mary Myers Johnson;  step daughter, Monica James (Rodney); step son, Lawrence Myers; four brothers; James "Slim" Johnson, Roland Johnson (Helen), Elmer Johnson, Sr. and Andrew Johnson; sister Bertha Irene Byrd; uncle, Raymond Wright (Barbara); Viola Wright Shelton and Elsie Childs; two brothers in law, William Taylor (Joyce) and Henry Taylor; two granddaughters; Shamika Smith and Sabrina Baylor (Dennis); step grandchildren, and five step great grandchildren; one special niece Atanza Smith; three close friends Elizabeth Johnson, Alonzo Saunders and Joe Saunders; a host nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2019 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday September 14, 2019 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 127 South Main Street, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wrightsville Road, Bowling Green, Virginia. 22427
