Obituary

On February 15, 2016, Nannie Luvinea Walker went from labor to rest. She was born on March 18, 1934 in Mica, Virginia now known as Fort A.P. Hill, to Thomas and Luberta Jones. her stepmother was Claire Jones. Nannie attended the Old Guinea School where Macedonia is now and later attended the old Union Elementary School in Caroline County. Her first teacher was Miss Susie Hill.

She joined Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of L.M. Johnson and was baptized in the Old Mill Pond. She served as an Usher and was a member of the Senior Choir.

On June 23, 1951 Nannie married Mack McKinley Walker.

Nannie worked hard and never had just one job. She started as a domestic worker for Mrs. Russell at the age of 10 and at 17 she went to work for the Duke family as a domestic worker and later a CNA caring for their disabled child. She did this until she could no longer work. During this time she also worked at Bassett Bedding and with her sister, owned and operated Delores and Nannie Catering for over 30 years. Later she worked and retired from General Products.

Nannie was a die-hard Redskins fan! HTTR!

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Berdina (Michael) Newkirk, Thomas (Zeta) Walker, Betsy Hall and William Walker; eleven grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delores Coleman, and Pearl (Lee) Hendricks; one step-sister, Grace Brown; her best friend, Gwen Rozell; five godchildren, Trudell Lucas, Joseph Brown, Sr.,Quinton Parker, Larry Catlett, Jr. and Corey Green; four aunts, one uncle and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Roger Walker, her great-granddaughter, Nia Allen, and step-daughter, Valerie Lewis, and her siblings, Bernice Howard and Eugene Jones.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20 at Macedonia Baptist Church 7187 Macedonia Road, Woodford, Virginia, 22580 with a viewing one hour before the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
