Lue Myrtle Johnson Alsop, the seventh of nine children born to the Late Johnnie Vernon Johnson and Lula Washington Johnson on July 23, 1934, departed this life on January 27, 2025, at her home in Newtown, Virginia.

Myrtle, a native of King and Queen County, received her early education in King and Queen County schools. In 1952, she graduated as a member and chaplain of Central High School's first graduating class.

She retired from the D.C. Department of Corrections in the early 1980's. After retiring and moving back to Newtown, Virginia, she dedicated herself to helping others by serving as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician, volunteer Emergency Dispatcher, and magnificent fundraiser to ensure that quality pre-hospital care was available in King and Queen County.

Myrtle joined First Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Newtown, Virginia, at an early age.  She moved her membership to Jerusalem Baptist Church as a pre-teen. By the age of 12, she was secretary of Sunday School, a position she held well into her 20's. She was an active member at Jerusalem, serving over the years as a member of the Deacon's Ministry, chairperson of the Deaconess Ministry, Church Treasurer, founding member of the Healthcare/Nurses Ministry, chair of the Hospitality Ministry, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, Choir member, Usher and more. Known for her loving and nurturing personality, she loved to bake her three-layer chocolate cakes and make her famous potato salad.

On February 4, 1956, Myrtle was united in holy matrimony with Raymond F. Alsop and from this union, three children were born.

Myrtle leaves cherished memories to three daughters: Pamela Alsop Green of Newtown, Virginia, Angela Alsop Thompson of Bowie, Maryland, and Sherrin C. Alsop of Newtown, Virginia; one grandson, Chad E. Green of Newtown, Virginia, and one son-in-law, James (TJ) Thompson of Bowie, Maryland; one sister, Flossie Johnson Gaines of Newtown, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Dr. Bessie Alsop Stanback of Princeton, New Jersey, and Iris Alsop of Washington, D.C. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 01, 2025, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, February 02, 2025, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
