Melvin D. Latney entered into eternal rest on Monday, May 9, 2011. Born October 18,1938 in King and Queen County, Virginia, to Horace and Beatrice Vessels Latney, he lived much of his adult life in the Washington, D.C. area before relocating to High Point, North Carolina with his beloved wife, Kelsey Cullins-Latney. Melvin leaves cherished memories to his wife, Kelsey Cullins-Latney; two daughters, Muriel Woodcox and Beverly Latney; a son, Sandy Cullins, grandchildren, Brittany, Melvin III, Brian, Zorria Marley and Byonka; five sisters, Gloria Samuels, Pauline Bundy, Doretha Broaddus, Annie Mae Chatman, and Jean (Leroy) Moore; two brothers, Robert Latney and Earl (Evelyn) Latney, a very special niece, Sharon Harvey; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A viewing was held at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home on Sunday, May 22, from noon to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. A homegoing celebration was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Sparta, Virginia. Rev. Theodore Calhoun, Sr., of Varick Memorial, Hackensack, New Jersey delivered the eulogy. Interment followed in the church cemetery
