On November 25, 2022, God picked Melvin M. (Mookie) Johnson, Sr. from His beautiful garden and called him home for eternal rest.  He was born in King and Queen County, Virginia on February 10, 1954, to the late Clayton and Isabell Johnson.  He joined Jerusalem Baptist Church at an early age.

Mookie attended Central High School and worked for J.D. Stokeley Contracting Company in Merrifield, Virginia and for Robert Hart where he drove tractor trailers for many years.  Mookie's hobbies were playing ball, watching football, westerns and anything with a horse in it. He was particularly fond of two soap operas, the "Young and Restless" and the "Bold and Beautiful" and everyone knew that they could not call him during the hours of 12:30 to 2:30. Mookie loved his family, had a kind heart and was always willing to help others whenever he could.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clayton O'Bryant Johnson, Dave Wayne Johnson and William (Billy) Johnson.

Mookie leaves precious memories to two sons, Melvin M. Johnson, Jr. and Thomas L. Gray; two sisters, Rebecca Tompkins of Bowling Green, Virginia, and Elaine Johnson of Maryland; four aunts, Jane, Lorraine, Clara and Joan; two uncles, James and Terry; three grandchildren, Mekhi, Thomas and Lakeisha; and Gloria Russ, a special significant friend of thirty-two years; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 02, 2022 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 03, 2022 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 21180 Bagby Road, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
