Matlyn G. Edwards was born on March 22,1934 in Prince William County, Virginia to the late Della Fisher, raised by Herbert L. and Ada B. Green. On Friday, May 14, 2022, surrounded by her family, God called upon his angels to escort his daughter to her eternal home.

Matlyn was educated in the Caroline County Public School System. She was baptized at an early age and joined Beulah Baptist Church. In later years she spent her life serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the New Life Community Church.

Matlyn began working at the age of 22 in the food industry in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She held many jobs in various professions and retired from St. Luke Hospital in Richmond, Virginia in 1996.

On October 10, 1949, Matlyn was joined in marriage to the late Charles Edward Roye. To this union, four daughters and one son were born joining one older brother.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by husbands; Roland Coleman and Roy Edwards, sister, Cordelia Anderson, son Charles Franklin Roye and daughter, Francyne Jones.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Everett Green (Dianne) of Woodford, Virginia; Clenenteen Byrd (Ronald) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Phyllis Bryant of Herndon, Virginia; and Jenetta Hopkins (Earl) of Woodford, Virginia; a beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law William and Margaret Roye; thirteen grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren; many other relatives; and close and loving friends. She will also be missed by her furry "grandbabies" Itch and Prince.

Funeral Information:

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 2 PM at the H & L Brown Cemetery, 6100 Cedon Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.  A viewing will began at 1 pm until service time.
