Mary Rebeca Yancey was born on July 15, 1929 to Novella Hartso. Mary departed her life quietly and peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Bowling Green Health & Rehab Center.
Mary was educated in Charlotte County Boarding School. Mary accepted Christ at an early age and attended her church in Charlotte County, Keysville, Va. After moving to Milford she attended Second Mt. Calvary occasionally. She worked on farms occasionally but was mainly a stay at home mom.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her aunt and uncle who raised her Peyton Lee and Hattie Lee and a step son Eugene Hunt.
She leaves cherished memories to her devoted husband Lee Yancey of Bowling Green, VA, one loving daughter Lettie Yancey (Edward) of Bowling Green, Va, one loving son Lewis Yancey (Janice) of Richmond VA, three granddaughters Lakia Roper (Maurice) of Richmond VA , Makia Sharp (Andre) of Richmond VA, Donyale Tunstall (Kenneth) of Richmond VA, two grandsons Marcus Taylor of Bowling Green, VA,
Bernard Yancey (Kwanzaa) of Bowling Green, VA, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, 1 devoted friend Barbara White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A viewing will be Friday. January 23, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour before the service on Saturday.
A celebration of life will be held at noon, Saturday, January 24, at Second Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 17247 New Baltimore Road, Milford, Virginia, 22514. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wrightsville Road, Milford, Virginia.
