Mary Ellen Rock Johnson was called from labor to reward at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, , February 19, 2021 in Bethesda, Maryland. Mary Ellen was born on April 30, 1940 to the late Walter T. and Carrie Fortune Rock in Milford, Virginia.
She received her education in the public schools of Caroline County and graduated from the Union High School class of 1958.
At an early age she accepted Christ and became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia. When she moved out of state to pursue work, Mary joined Maple Springs Baptist in Capital Heights Maryland where she served as an usher.
Mary was employed at the United States Department of Energy as a travel manager and where she retired from after thirty one years of service. She desired to become an entrepreneur which lead her to open The Elite International Document, Inc. She was also a licensed real estate agent in the state of Maryland.
Mary was united in holy matrimony to Melvin Johnson and to this union four children were born. She later married Willie Dee Johnson where they celebrated thirty three years together.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She enjoyed cooking special dishes for her family and having them displayed in a mouth watering fashion that you just couldn't resist tasting them.
As well as her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Walter Rock, II and sister Mildred Rock Whitson.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, her devoted husband; Willie Dee Johnson, four children; James T. Johnson (Linda), Laverne Smith, Shelia Johnson, and Gregory Johnson (Lynn); grandchildren, Summer, Niko, Kalani, BreAnna, Carol, Christyal, Tyrone, Gregory II; great grandchildren, Cambell, Kameron, Vision, Nigel, II; sisters, Doris Carter, Margaret Chambers; brother, Larry Rock; one uncle, Lucious Fortune (Myrtle); stepchildren Delphine, Diane, and Allen; step grandchildren, Tyler, Asia, Danielle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A walk through viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc; 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be private at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. John Baptist Church Cemetery , 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580
