Obituary

Marion James Henderson, affectionately known as "Melvin" departed this life on April 3, 2011, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Melvin was born on April 3, 1941, to the late Adline Haze and Willie Henderson. He grew up and was educated in Waterloo, South Carolina, where he joined church at an early age. He moved to Caroline County at the age of 18. He later met the love of his life, Catherine Amelia Toliver and they were married for 36 years. He worked for the Caroline County Public Works Department until he retired.

Melvin leaves cherished memories to his loving and devoted wife Catherine Henderson; three children, Michelle Henderson-Chandler of Chester, Andrew Toliver and his wife Sharon of Woodford, and Catherine Holmes and her husband, Thomas, of Ruther Glen; five grandchildren, Ciara Chandler, Joy Toliver, Hope Toliver, Crystal Holmes, Trey Holmes; one great granddaughter, Saniya Holmes, a devoted friend, Sergeant Billy Day and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, April 8, from noon to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

A homegoing celebration will be at noon, Saturday, April 9, at New Life Pentecostal Church, 5322 Jericho Road, Ruther Glen, VA 22546. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
