Obituary

Margaret Estelle Childs, affectionately known as "Mick" was born to the late Loeb and Lara Estelle Fortune on May 20, 1935 in King and Queen, Va.

She departed this life on December 17, 2018 at 4:30 am at Mary Washington Hospital.

At an early age she joined St. John Baptist Church in Caroline County. She received her education in the Caroline County Public Schools. Upon moving to Stafford, Virginia and having a firm belief in God, she joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

She was married to the late Chester C. Childs Sr.  To this union 10 children were born.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Carpenter, one grandson, Michael E. Childs

She leaves to mourn her loss six daughters, Linda (Zolly) Hawthorne, caregiver Darlene (Vivian) Boxley of Spotsylvania, Va., Janice Patterson of Louisiana, Gloria Childs, Tammy Brown of Stafford and Deborah (Jake, Sr.) of Caroline County.  Three sons, Chester (Alberta) Childs, Jr. of Kansas, Kent (Peggy) Childs of Hartwood, Va. And Kirk Childs of Ashland, Va. One Brother, Floyd E. Fortune (Bernice) of Bowling Green, one brother-in-law Brent Childs (Anne) of Balty, Va. Two sisters-in-law, Roberta Fortune of Colorado and Leila Fortune of Texas,  21 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.  Caregivers from Peaceful Surroundings and CC Home Health.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 20,2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the C.W. Edwards Funeral Home 16476 Richmond Turnpike Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

There will also be a viewing on Friday December 21,2018 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at  Mt Olive Baptist Church, 395 Mt Olive Road Stafford, Virginia 22554.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 22,2018 at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road Woodford, Virginia 22580, with a viewing one hour prior to the service.

Internment will follow in the church cemetery.
