Margaret Vivian Ann Brown was born on December 2,1943 in Caroline County Virginia to the late Elijah F. and Delmore Lee. She received her education from the Saint James Elementary and Union High Schools, Caroline County, Virginia. During her earlier years, Margaret moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she met and married the late Bernard Peay, Sr. and from this union two children were born, a daughter and son. While living in Philadelphia, she enjoyed a career as a caregiver at Grand Oaks Nursing Home.

In 1982, Margaret married John Brown and they made their home together in Philadelphia,  and worshiped as active members at Providence Baptist Church (West Philadelphia). Desiring to return to her childhood home, she relocated with her husband to Caroline County, Virginia and it was here she had the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors by planting flowers and other landscaping greenery around their home.

Margaret's life was not complete without a place of worship. Soon after she returned to her childhood home, she and her husband became members of St. John Baptist Church, Milford, Virginia where they both diligently served and enjoyed traveling to other churches for afternoon and evening worship services. Her life of Christian fellowship continued as she joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dawn, Virginia where she faithfully attended and served as a member of the Deaconess Ministry. Indeed, Margaret loved her church unconditionally.

Margaret's return to Caroline County, Virginia was not one of total relaxation as she was a person full of energy. She soon began her second career with Caroline County Public Schools with the transportation department as a car driver and later she worked with the Boys Home in Hanover, County Virginia before entering into full retirement.

Margaret's earthy departure leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Deacon John Brown of Milford, Virginia; two children, Easter Peay of Atlanta, Georgia, and Bernard Peay, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; four step-children, John Brown, Jr. Sharon Brown, Sherel McKnight, Tara Lomax; three grandchildren; Janell, Jani, and Jasmine; four step-grandchildren, Johna, Iesha, Dishre, Shareck; two great-grandchildren, Neveah, Khalil; three sisters, Dorothy Peay (Gonzales) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Ruby V. Thornton (Arthur) of Milford ,Virginia and Sally Waller of Bowling Green, Virginia; two brother-in-laws, Lloyd H. Brown and Henry O. Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service  will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Second Mount Zion Baptist Church, 31220 Old Dawn Road, Hanover, Virginia 23069 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Pastor Marvin Fields will be delivering the eulogy.

Interment will follow in Saint John Baptist Church Cemetery, 17080 S. River Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580.
