Luther "Billy" Franklin Washington, Sr. peacefully passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Billy was known throughout the community and beyond as a diligent worker, a man of his word, and for sharing his witty sense of humor. He worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) until his retirement in 1995.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Elaine E. Washington and his three children, Luther F. Washington, Jr., Sylvia A. Washington Bullock and Edward P. Lee; two beloved sisters, Margaret A. Toller and Myrtle L. Lewis and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held Friday, December 13, from noon to 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 and one hour before the service on Saturday.
His life shall be honored at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 14, at Caroline Community Services Center, 17202 Richmond Turnpike, Milford, Virginia 22514. Interment will follow at Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Woodford, Virginia.
