Lucy Mae departed her life on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late James Harding Smith and the late Lillian Ora Smith of Caroline County, Virginia. Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Saunders, one brother, Louis "Jack" Smith, two sons, Gary Ellis Smith and Antonia (Tony) Saunders and one nephew, Louis Neal Smith.

Lucy Mae joined Beulah Baptist Church at an early age and was a graduate of Union High School in Caroline County, Virginia. She was a loving mother that adored her children. She loved her family and had a willing and giving personality to everyone.

Lucy Mae worked at Best Products , Ashland, Virginia; Circuit City in Richmond, Virginia; Holiday Inn, Spotsylvania, Virginia and upon her retirement she worked at Ms. Allison's Daycare, Ladysmith, Virginia.

She leaves cherished memories to her loving and devoted daughter, Stephanie Taylor Saunders, two loving and devoted sons; Troy R. Saunders and La Monte J. Saunders both of Caroline County, Virginia; two loving grandchildren that she raised like her own, Tajamean Williams (Tamika), of Richmond, Virginia  and Ora Young (Mark) of Caroline County, Virginia; three caring grandsons, Gary Taylor (Shauniece), Antonio Perrin all of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Tylique Spencer (U.S. Navy) of Jacksonville, Florida; six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; two special cousins; Roberta and Antionette Lewis both of Caroline County, Virginia; three sister-in-laws and one brother-in-law; a devoted and caring fiance', Oscar Kay and one special god child, Mikayla Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and friends that will miss her dearly.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church, 5216 Arcadia Road, Woodford, Virginia 22580 with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
