Lloyd Franklin Simms was born in Caroline County, Virginia on March 27, 1939. He was the second child born to the late Flossie Elvira Simms. Lloyd entered eternal rest on May 15, 2018 in Mechanicsville surrounded by family.
Lloyd received his early education in Caroline County Public Schools. Lloyd's earlier years were spent in Jericho area of Caroline where he attended Jericho Baptist Church with his mother. Later the family moved to Bowling Green, Virginia.
Lloyd was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Virginia.
On July 13, 1963, Lloyd was joined in holy matrimony to Ivory Mae Robinson of Milford, Virginia, his Honey. From this union, they had one beloved daughter, Lori Lynette or Pudden as he often called her. He later moved his membership to second Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Edgar Williams to serve with his wife and daughter. Lloyd was a faithful servant. Serving on the Usher Ministry and custodial staff until his health began to decline.
After over twenty-five years with the federal government, he retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia. He later drove the school bus for Caroline County Public Schools.
During his young life adult life, Lloyd could be found on the baseball field. Reggie Jackson was his all-time favorite player. At any time, you could always find him outside in the yard with Pudden in tow. Lloyd was always the life the party and loved to make people laugh. Lloyd enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he and Ivory were frequently hosting parties and holidays. The family often took bus trips to Atlantic City. He was an avid wrestling fan who tuned in every week. His favorite past times were playing BINGO and cards. Lloyd never met a stranger, and he never had any problem asking you a thousand questions about your life.
In addition to his mother, Lloyd was preceded in death by one brother, Edmond "Shorty" Simms
Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-four years and caretaker, Ivory Robinson Sims of Bowling Green, Virginia ; his daughter, Lori Lynette Sims; three grandchildren he adored, Damian "Captain D" Sims, Aliyah "Liyah Boo" Ware and Sydney "Sydney Boo" Ware all of Spotsylvania; his only sister, Mae Simms Boggs of Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law Martha Simms and one brother-in-law, Franklin Robinson; two god-daughters, Pamela Berry of Ruther Glen, Virginia and AshLee Simms of Bowling Green, Virginia; long time family friend Patricia "DD" Young of Bowling Green, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427 with family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Second Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 172427 New Baltimore Road, Milford, Virginia 22514 with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Mount Lawn Cemetery, Woodford, Virginia 22580
